LZ 86 was send to Temesvar on 24 August 1916. On 4 September 1916 LZ 86 made here first attack on the oil refinery town of Ploesti. She attempted to land next morning, she crashed at high speed outside her base and was wrecked, most of the crew being killed, including her commander oberlt. Wolff.
Crashed owing to pilot error : few survivors...
rear gondola broke off....The airship with other crew landed into the neighbourhood, so a number of them survived ...
(No numbers mentioned of victims or surviving crew!)
Remark original size was 31,900 m³ later enlarged (as so many others!) to 35,800 m³.
